A/N: Hi guys, welcome to my first Torchwood story! Before you read this, check out the first of this series "Twisted Words" (Category: DW) on my profile in the folder DW Fanfiction. If you don't want to, I guess this would make sort of sense, and I did put a "last time" at the beginning for those who read it months ago. The second sequel "Twisted Actions" is Category DW/TW Xover. Also, you don't really need to have seen any episodes of Torchwood to read this, as long as you know who Jack, Gwen and Ianto are. Rhys is Gwen's husband and Tosh and Owen died at the end of series 1. By the way, my Torchwood knowledge is a bit rusty, I haven't seen them in a while so I apologize for any continuity or other mistakes of the like. I've seen every episode except nine episodes of Miracle Day (which I hope you can forgive me for that :P) Oh and I love Gwen and Rhys so much. There will be some romance there, as this is new territory for me :D Enjoy!

LAST TIME:

The Doctor: "It's a Quist, a gaseous, parasitic creature. Supposedly their race died off thousands of years ago."

The Doctor: "It wasn't me Rose. I would never hurt you."

Rose: "I believe you. I know something's inside you Doctor."

The Doctor: "It's the last of its' kind...it wants to...procreate."

Rose: "Through me?"

The Doctor: "The creature's desperate, it would even kill us to get what it wants. You can't let this thing breed off of you. If it gets inside you... if their race rises up again... they're evil, malicious creatures, caring only for themselves. I can't lose you, not again!"

Rose tried not to cry as she laid the little white stick down on the bathroom counter. Positive.

Rose ignored him and turned away from his sight slowly. And her eyes flashed yellow.

"Let Rose go immediately!" The Doctor cried.

"Never!" The Quist shouted back. "This one's mine now. All because of you."

"Let me speak to Rose, or else..."

"Or else what? You'll kill me? You won't touch me as long as I'm in her."

Captain Jack Harkness jerked out of his slumber at the oh-so familiar wheezing sound coming from somewhere inside the Hub.

The Doctor: "It's my fault. It got inside me first. I don't even remember doing it to her."

Gwen Cooper: "Actually we call it the Singularity Scalpel."

Jack: "You did it!"

The Doctor: The Quist wrecked such havoc on her system that her senses are messed up. That's why she can't talk properly. She should recover in a while, if I help her."

The Doctor: "Look, I know I've messed up the time lines. Rose was about to give birth and I needed a safe, secure place with the technology that could help her."

The Doctor: "Something's going to happen to her. I'm going to lose her, and I can't live with that knowledge. I have to wipe both mine and Rose's memory of coming here."

Jack: "This is it, isn't it Doctor?"

Jack: "Before you erase your memory of what you heard here, can I just say two words that you can remember? Canary Wharf. Be careful."

"Well, good work gang." Jack said as the TARDIS disappeared. Gwen and Ianto grinned at him. "Go home you two, you deserve it."

After Ianto left, Gwen grabbed her bag, thinking of Rhys and getting more excited with every passing minute. But when she picked up her bag she felt a strange pressure in her head. She raised a hand and held it to her forehead, which was hot. Probably just a cold. She shook it off and left the Hub.

*Chapter One - Hidden*

♫ "You can be right
And I'll be real
Honesty won't be a pain
That you will have to feel
Cause I don't need your approval
To find my worth

I'm trapped inside of my own mind
Afraid to open my eyes cause of what I'd find and I
Don't wanna live like this anymore" ♫

The year was 2008. The Torchwood Hub was completely silent and darkness shrouded the entire area. All the workers had gone home except for Captain Jack Harkness, the leader and organizer of the Torchwood 3 team, who was currently working quietly in his office. The immortal former time agent preferred to get the important stuff out of the way when he was alone and silence was his only companion. Plus, he hardly slept anyway.

Unheard steps made their way across the hall and a barely seen shadow crept over to the vault that held the most dangerous weapons and other items Cardiff had seen. Many lives had been lost due to the contents of the vault, which was kept under lock and key for that specific reason. Fingers reached out and punched in the code, unlocking one of the safes. Hands reached inside, pulling out the item known as the Singularity Scalpel. Then those same hands placed it into a black backpack sitting on the floor, which was then softly hoisted onto thin shoulders. Quiet footsteps then moved in the direction of the front exit.

"Hold it." The lights in the Hub switched on suddenly. Gwen Cooper jumped in surprise. She squinted in the bright light but didn't turn around to face her boss. Eventually her eyes adjusted to the light but she still kept them lowered. "Come on Gwen. I know what you took, hand it over." He held out his hand expectantly. Gwen turned around and gave him a sheepish smile, before pulling a small metal disc out of her front jacket pocket. She placed it in Jack's palm and he looked at it wistfully.

"Gwen, I do know that achieving a higher ecstasy in sex is a good thing, but what you and Rhys have is special. You don't need this." He pocketed the item.

"Of course," Gwen replied. "sorry sir." Jack tried to look at his employee and friend sternly, but failed. Instead he grinned.

"Just don't let it happen again." He wagged a finger at her in correction. "Now get out of here. Go, show the world what true love really is!" Gwen hugged the black bag closer to herself and turned away. After making it to the door, she patted the bag with an evil chuckle, her brown eyes rimmed in yellow. The malicious creature inside her ruminated silently as her host Gwen walked home.

"That was too close, what happened with that Rose child. She and that...that thing inside her were much stronger than I anticipated. But not this Gwen girl. It's a good thing I was able to get out of the Rose child and no one noticed. This Gwen girl will be perfect in instigating my little takeover of this planet. No pregnancy this time though. My father meant no harm to me but it's too easy to get noticed, plus I can't, only the males of my kind can reproduce in a host anyway. No problem, I'll just reside in this vessel until the time is right for me to step out. And if the Doctor dares to show his face on this planet again, he'll regret it. Can't say the same for the Rose child. That Bad Wolf is just too powerful."

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"Scoot over!"

"Ooh, you brought popcorn, my favorite!"

"All snacks containing high loads of either salt or sugar are your favorite, Doctor. Now shove over!" The Doctor grabbed a huge handful of popped corn from the ginormous bowl his current blonde companion was holding and made room for her on the couch. Rose sat down next to her friend (but sometimes it felt more than just that) and looked at the blank wall directly in front of them.

"Explain to me what we're wit...wit...witnessing, is that the word?" The Doctor nodded. Rose sighed in frustration. Her brain pathways were still being repaired. For the most part she was doing fine, every once in a while a word wouldn't come to her, but thankfully that was the only problem left. It used to be a lot worse. She began again. "What are we seeing again?"

The Doctor held his hands out like a wanting child and Rose passed him the bowl, biting back a grin. Her heart swelled with an indescribable feeling for the ageless man beside her. She took in a deep breath, trying not to think of the kiss they shared after that whole mess with the Isolus. The Doctor acted like nothing had happened after that, so she did the same. "Just friends" she had to remind herself, though unconvincingly.

"Well," he said through a mouthful of popcorn "we will be seeing a supernova of the star Galxatrona. We will also be the first and the only to see it, since no one in light years of this area has the proper technology to watch this without getting vaporized."

"Except us?"

"Except us." Rose gazed a minute at the empty wall in front of them.

"How exactly are we going to see this spectacular show anyway? Oh please don't tell me on a television screen!" The Doctor glanced at her with a knowing smile.

"It's like you don't even know me, Rose Tyler." With a snap of his fingers the wall in front of them began to rise up, revealing a large expansion of space in front of them, with the legendary star right in the middle. Rose gasped and sat up a little straighter.

"Yes, any second now...ah!" They both cried out in delight as the Galxatrona star supernova'ed (if 'supernova'ed could be used as a verb that is. Rose was sure the Doctor would go on a whole schpiel about that if she inquired). After the initial burst was through, Rose laid back against the couch and snuggled into the Time Lord's side. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer to himself. Rose placed her hand on the Doctor's stomach and strummed her fingers against it lazily, her eyes never leaving the spectacular show in front of them. They were both quiet for a few minutes, perfectly content to watch the beautiful display in front of them.

"Doctor?" Rose piped up, a bit warily.

"Yeah?" He replied.

"If it doesn't bother you, can I ask you some questions about the Quist?" The Doctor didn't say anything for a few seconds. Then he sighed.

"Ask away." She deserved to know after what had happened...what he had done to her.

"NO! I can't hurt you anymore!"

He had to physically stop himself from shuddering due to those horrific memories burning through him like fire. Rose, oblivious, asked what had been on her mind.

"Well, I was just wondering, what would have happened if...if that thing got out of me." The Doctor clenched his teeth, trying to shut out Rose's screams in his head. He knew that time in his life would haunt him forever, despite his hazy memories on the whole ordeal. Sometimes he wondered if everything really happened in the TARDIS, or somewhere else, though where he hadn't a clue... He took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing hearts.

"If it got out of you, the child would have grown rapidly until it reached the peak of strength, say 25 years old, in a matter of minutes. The power of that creature would have been exponential, and I don't know if I could have stopped it. Hell, after losing...after your d-..." he couldn't even imagine it, much less say it. A life without her, it was simply unbearable. He lov...-regarded her too highly for that. He wished he'd had the courage to do and say everything he wanted to her, like when he followed through on that sudden urge to kiss her after the Olympics celebrations. But he was too afraid to bring that up again. He was always too afraid.

Rose bit her lip, rubbing his shoulder for comfort. "After you would be gone, I don't think I would have wanted to." She felt guilty for bringing it up, but she wanted to know. That creature had been a part of her and she couldn't feel any anger towards the Quist. She had to know what had happened, and refused to believe that it had been the Doctor's fault. Sure, the first Quist had used the Doctor's body to impregnate her and he said he should have been able to protect her, but she didn't blame him at all.

"What gender was the one inside me?" The Doctor scratched his head, thinking.

"The Quist begin as asexual. They take over the gender of its host. The one that got in me first was male and..."

"The one created in me was female." The Doctor nodded. Rose looked up wistfully.

"I would have named her Susan." The Doctor immediately spluttered, popcorn bits flying everywhere. Rose thumped on his back after he burst into a coughing fit. He looked at her with wide eyes.

"S-Susan?"

"Yeah." Rose shrugged like her words hadn't affected him. "I've been thinking about the names of my future children since I was a little girl. I think it's a lovely name. Don't you?"

"Uh, yes. Yes. V-very lovely." He said more as a distraction to himself than to her. The Doctor coughed one last time to prevent himself from choking. Finally as his lungs stilled back to normal, they settled back down on the couch. Once they were comfortable, Rose spoke up again.

"How did they die out in the first place?"

"The Time Lords banished them into the void." Rose sat up and looked at him.

"Really?"

"Yup." He popped the 'p'. "Very naughty, those Quist were, taking over planets at a phenomenal rate. One of the few times the Time Lords stepped in to help."

"Then how did one get out, on the planet we were on?"

"Quist are gaseous creatures. One tiny glimmer or wave between the walls and one would slip out. One in a million chance, but it happened. Actually one in a million point five five x two seven eight six six four." Rose shook her head, chuckling. The Doctor leaned back, still in pensive thought.

"Either that or, the walls between here and the void are cracking." He said nonchalantly. The smile fell from Rose's face.

"Is that bad?" The Doctor looked at his companion, his eyes grave.

"It's very bad." he frowned. Those words. Canary Wharf. They were ringing in his head like a warning alarm. Why did Jack- Jack? Where had that name come from? He hadn't seen Jack since he abandoned him on the Game Station. Remembering Rose was still watching him, he reached out and eased her body back into his side. Rose laid her head on his chest and let the beat of his two hearts calm her racing one. Why was she so worried all of a sudden?

"Nah, nothing to worry about now though." The Doctor assured her. Rose smiled as she looked back out into space and the incredible scene that lay before them, momentarily forgotten. Perhaps he was right.

"Yeah," she whispered. "Nothin' to worry 'bout..."

"Rhys, I'm home!"

"Well, it's about bloody time! You had to work late again tonight?" Gwen looked up into the annoyed yet adoring eyes of her husband.

"Of the sorts," She replied, pulling on his tie that he still hadn't removed from work. "Say, Mr. Williams, why don't you say we have some fun tonight?" She pulled him forward by his tie until their noses were barely touching.

"You make a tempting offer Mrs. Williams," He closed the gap between them and kissed her passionately. He grasped her tiny waist with his large hands and hoisted her up on the counter behind them. He then proceeded to remove her shirt from her body clumsily. While his head was buried in her chest Gwen looked up at the ceiling, sighing with pleasure. Another bonus of taking on a human form. The yellow on the edges of her eyes glowed and she grinned wickedly.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

THUNK! Jack loudly set his head on his desk. Rubbing his forehead, he grew frustrated at his inability to stay awake this morning. He had told his friends that he didn't sleep at all, but that was a lie. The truth was he rarely slept. The few nights he tried to he couldn't. Right now there was a restlessness inside him, like something was wrong and he had missed it. He thought over what had happened the past week. The Doctor had saved Rose and the two of them were together again, at least Jack hoped so. If they hadn't 'done it' by now, he'd have to smack their heads together to get them to realise how much they loved each other.

The Time Lord may have erased their memories of coming to Torchwood for help, but if the Doctor had done what Jack requested, he'd remember the words Canary Wharf and hopefully be extremely cautious on matters relating to it. Maybe he'd have the ingenuity to save Rose. Or Jack had played right into fate's hands and merely saved her from dying. Most likely the latter, but if Rose Tyler was alive, that was all that mattered.

No, that couldn't be the source of his unease. Today would be a good, sunny day (so he hoped) and his team was soon to arrive. Gorgeous Gwen, beautiful Ianto, ingenious Tosh, and the ever-grouchy yet lovable Owe-

His heart clenched in grief, as it did every morning when he remembered. Tosh and Owen no longer worked at Torchwood. Or anywhere on this whole damn planet. They were dead, and it was his fault. Any sensible person would look at the situation and come to the conclusion that it was Gray's fault. But Jack knew better. Not only were they his team and he should have been able to take care of them, but Gray was his brother. If he hadn't been so careless when they were children, Tosh wouldn't have been shot and Owen wouldn't have been vaporized.

Jack rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He finally understood how the Doctor felt, losing friends at every turn. He wondered, and not for the first time, how the time lord did it. The years Jack had spent alone had left him bitter and angry. Unless he was around his friends in which then he kept a fake cheery mask on, even when those friends kept dying one by one, while he continued on alone.

"Maybe I'm in the wrong line of work," he thought. Or maybe not. Was it better to lose them now saving the world, or watch them grow old and turn into dust or worse, having to leave so those who didn't know wouldn't discover his secret? He wished he could ask the Doctor.

He thumped his head on the desk again, this time purposefully. Better to forget about it all than to dwell on it so much it might make him do something stupid. Besides, Ianto and Gwen were coming at any minute and Torchwood needed to be ready for whatever the world was to throw at them that day.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

As expected, Ianto came strolling in first, exactly at 8:00. That man was impeccable.

"Coffee sir?"

"Ianto," He implored, shaking his head. "You know you're not just the coffee boy any more." There were empty positions and duties to fill, after all.

"Yes, of course. Still, I like to do what I'm best at." he held the coffee pot up in question. Jack sighed, consenting.

"Yes, please," As he took his first sip he noticed Gwen enter, five minutes late. That feeling of unease rose up again. He shook it off and flashed her an award-winning smile.

"Sleep well?" he winked at her mischievously.

"Oh stop it you." She came up and slapped him on the arm. Jack looked between his two dearest friends, warmth filling his heart. He threw an arm around each of them.

"Let's get this party started!" He smacked them on their backs and the three of them set off to do their jobs.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

An hour later...

"Jack!" Ianto called, standing in front of the computer screen. "There's an outbreak of weevils, near Sussex." Jack leapt up out of his chair, striding over to the new identity-locked weapons case. He'd gotten it in an intergalactic bartering event. He lost 300 credits that day, but hell, at least they had a good place to lock their guns.

He pressed his thumb on the lock and waited as it read his DNA. The case opened with a 'click' and he pulled two futuristic-looking pistols out. Yes, they had come with the case. He threw one to Ianto, who caught it easily.

"Mr. Jones and I will take this. Gwen, you can handle it here?" Man, he missed Tosh.

"You bet boss." Inwardly Gwen smiled. Perfect. The two of them rushed off. Jack turned to Ianto.

"Me and Mr. Jones." He said, cracking a smile. Ianto sighed.

"If you start singing I'm going to shoot you myself." Gwen could hear Jack laughing as they left.

"Wouldn't be the first time!" He shouted, laughing even harder. Gwen continued to watch them on the outside security cameras. As soon as they were out of sight Gwen let out a relieved sigh. She didn't think she'd get a chance like this for at least another few weeks. Sussex was nearly three hours away so that gave her a nice cushion to do whatever she wanted. She looked around at all the technology and weaponry she had been left alone with. This place held secrets, dangerous things that only Torchwood knew about.

And they were all hers for the taking.

Summary: The Quist that first possessed Rose has gotten inside a member of the Torchwood team. Can Jack discover and destroy it before any real damage is done? #3 in the "Twisted" Series (Category DW-#1: Twisted Words #2: Twisted Actions). Rated T for violence, language and innuendo. Gwen/Rhys, suggested Jack/Ianto, Ten/Rose (Minor appearance), Horror/Drama/Action

Hi guys! I know some of you had to wait FAR too long for this, and for that I'm sorry. I was nervous to post this because well, I don't LOVE it very much. It all started as a quick response to a whump!contest, so the sequels are rushed and just okay. But hey, I like to think I resolved everything well! And yes, I'm sure the weevils are used farrr too often, but the action-y stuff is not really what I'm going for creatively, Gwen and her situation is the main plot point. Btw anything between Jack and Ianto is only suggested so you can fill in the blanks. Sorry, it just makes me uncomfortable (I'm NOT judging!) Please please please comment! :D

If it doesn't bother you, I'd like some reviews on my fanfiction.net version of this, over here: www.fanfiction.net/s/10619283/…

This is dedicated to :iconsaoirse-rose: for her comment that I should continue this. *shakes fist* lol thanks!
